Llamedos Holiday Camp Scout Jamboree - Newsletter #13

Schmae Campers,

Welcome to the 13th Scout Jamboree Newsletter - Lucky for some!

Gang Show

At every good Scout Jamboree there is always an evening of entertainment. Some might say that is a Gang Show.

  • We recommend that each act contains at least four members from your scout troop.
  • Your act cannot be longer than 180 seconds.
  • We cannot provide anything other than microphone(s) and we can play a mp3 (on usb stick edited down to no more than 180 seconds) handed in advance to our tech purple coat Rob .
  • We will not download music from Youtube etc and cannot extract it from your phone. You must provide it on a clearly labelled usb stick.

Register your interest at the quartermaster's desk in the Scout Halll at any time before dinner on Saturday.

Tickets Available

Sadly we've had a couple of ticket holders inform us that they can no longer make the event. So we have two tickets available. If you are interested please email us at info@llamedosholidaycamp.com

Uniform Inspection Show

The Uniform Inspection Show starts about an hour before the Costume Balll. We expect to see people in their finest uniforms. This is the place where you get to show off your finery and the purple coats will present the owner of the finest costume with an award.

As with the general Uniform you must still wear your neckerchief and woggle, and cover all the necessary bits of your body.

Registration is not required. Just turn up and show off.

Art Competition

For all you budding artists (and non artists) you can get a head start on the Art Activity Badge by entering our Artist Competition.

To enter:

You need to produce a postcard size piece of art which displays what you feel Llamedos Holiday Camp represents to you. You must include your badge number and name on the back of your art.

Hand in your art at the Scout Halll on Friday during registration and you will get your stamp for your Art Badge, over the course of the weekend our purplecoat team will decide the best postcard and prizes will be awarded at the Costume Balll.

The artwork will be put on display over the course of the weekend.

Darkbox Images

Gregg McNeill makes Tintype Portraits just like the Victorians did in the 1850s, using a process called Wetplate Collodion. Gregg will make your portrait on metal or glass in his studio and you will watch it appear right before your eyes. Gregg will take you through the process step by step and you’ll walk away with a One of a Kind portrait that will last forever.

Gift Certificates for Portraits are also available.

  • Small Tintype Portrait (4 x 5") - £40
  • Medium Tintype Portrait (4¾ x 6½") - £70
  • Large Tintype Portrait (6½ x 8½") - £100

Your Small or Medium sized portrait can be mounted on a Victorian inspired Cabinet Card for an additional charge of £10

Gregg also has hand made photographic prints available, made from his own glass plate negatives, using a printing process invented in 1833 called Salt Printing. These unique images are made one at a time by Gregg in his studio and will make lovely gifts.

Salt Prints - £30

Gregg is bringing this amazing process with him to Llamedos Holiday Camp. To pre-book a slot please email Gregg at gbmcneill@darkboximages.com

Rwby and Rincewind had their iconograph taken last year by Gregg and were fascinated by the process. We are very happy with our tintype image.

The Diplomat Hotel Payment Reminder

The Diplomat Hotel has asked us to remind you that they will be taking the full balance of the hotel and camping bookings on Monday 22nd January 2024. They will be charging the card you used to pay the deposit.

The Sessile Oak Payments

We may have a twin room available at the Sessile Oak as one guest has not yet paid for the room. We'll try to contact them one more time to get payment. If that falls through the room will be made available. Contact us if you may be interested at info@llamedosholidaycamp.com.

Hotel Transport (Sessile Oak and Premier Inn)

Please use the booking form below if you wish to take advantage of our Travel Pass.

We've arranged with the same coach company we used two years ago, to pick up campers on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Paul will be driving people for the return journey in the Diplomat's Mini Bus on both nights and will pick up and drop off on Friday.

We've managed to keep the costs down as low as possible so a travel pass will cost £35 per person for the weekend. This will include minibus pick up at various times on Friday afternoon, coach pick up on Saturday and Sunday morning, and minibus return trips on all three evenings. Given the cost and availability (or lack of) taxis we feel this is very good value for money.

If you are staying at either The Sessile Oak or the Premier Inn Llanelli Central East hotels and wish to take advantage of the travel pass please fill in our Google Form and we'll invoice you.

Booking Form

NOTE: We'll start invoicing for the travel pass at the beginning of February.

Troop Allocation

Just a reminder that if you have not chosen your troop by the end of January, Rwby will be allocating you into an appropriate troop. You have been warned!

To choose your troop, head over the guest area, log in and choose your troop.
