Llamedos Holiday Camp Scout Jamboree - Newsletter #16

Schmae Campers,

Welcome to the 16th Scout Jamboree Newsletter! It's the morning of the day before the event and all is calm. The weather is currently living up to true Llamedos standards.

OK, as we go into full on moving stuff around mode we won't be online much to look at emails / social media etc.

So, from now on if you need to contact us in an emergency, please call us on the number listed at the top of the guest area.

This is the final newsletter that we are sending out before the event.

Thank you and see you very soon,

Rwby, Rincewind and the PurpleCoats

Thursday Night Pub Quiz

If you arrive on Thursday, why not join our very own Rincewind for a pub quiz at 8pm in the bar at the Diplomat Hotel. There may be prizes for the winners. Bring a pencil and your brains!

Food for the Apes and Monkeys

Our chosen charity The Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary are always looking for food donations for their animals. We will be taking a trip over to the Sanctuary after the event and are happy to take any donations you are able to bring with you.

To get an idea of what they need, they have produced an Amazon Wish List.

So if you don't want to use Amazon but wish to purchase any of these types of items (mainly dry foods like fruit, nuts, oats and pasta, tinned food such as fruit and veg) from your stores we will be happy to deliver them. Please don't bring perishable items.

Charity Auction

We will be running our traditional charity auction at the Scout Jamboree. This year we will once again be raising funds for Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary. If you get a chance to visit the sanctuary around your visit to Llamedos Holiday Camp we are sure you'll have a great time.

For more information about the Sanctuary the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary website.

Please book in your items at the registration desk. Thank you.

Fifth Elephant Stall

We will be running a Fifth Elephant stall at the event. You can bring your unwanted items or find your new favourite item. Donations for items will be passed onto our chosen charity the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary. Please see a member of the PurpleCoat team in the NYF.

Darkbox Images Reminder

Gregg McNeill makes Tintype Portraits just like the Victorians did in the 1850s, using a process called Wetplate Collodion. Gregg will make your portrait on metal or glass in his studio and you will watch it appear right before your eyes. Gregg will take you through the process step by step and you'll walk away with a One of a Kind portrait that will last forever.

Gift Certificates for Portraits are also available.

  • Small Tintype Portrait (4 x 5") - £40
  • Medium Tintype Portrait (4¾ x 6½") - £70
  • Large Tintype Portrait (6½ x 8½") - £100

Your Small or Medium sized portrait can be mounted on a Victorian inspired Cabinet Card for an additional charge of £10

Gregg also has hand made photographic prints available, made from his own glass plate negatives, using a printing process invented in 1833 called Salt Printing. These unique images are made one at a time by Gregg in his studio and will make lovely gifts.

Salt Prints - £30

Please see Gregg or Lesley-Anne in the old GLO Office near the hotel reception to book your slot.

Friday Transport From The Sessile Oak

We have arranged for a number pick ups from The Sessile Oak at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm based on your requests for Transport Passes. A PurpleCoat will announce their presence in the bar and usher you onto the bus. (If you haven't purchased a Transport pass you will be able to purchase one from the PurpleCoat in the bar)

For those staying at the Premier Inn that have purchased a Transport Pass please make your way over to the bar at the Sessile Oak by walking around the car park in the shopping centre.

Please ensure you are in the bar area on time.

Saturday and Sunday Transport

For those that have purchased a transport pass. The coach will be picking you up at 9am at the Sessile Oak. Please meet in the bar.

If you are staying at the Premier Inn please ensure you walk over to the Sessile Oak bar in time.

Evening Journeys back to the Sessile Oak

Again for those that have purchased a transport pass. A minibus shuttle service will be in place once each evening's entertainment has finished.

Please be patient as the mini-bus has limited spaces and we'd like to ensure that it is full each time to reduce the number of trips required.

If you are staying at the Premier Inn please let the driver know and he will drop you off at your hotel.

The Old Dais

Don't tell Rwby

The Old Dai's will be meeting in Trubshaws (the Restaurant) on Saturday night. If you are already a member please bring your membership card. If you are not already a member feel free to come along.

Please remember this is an activity to directly raise funds for the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary.

It is better if you bring cash but we may be able to borrow a card reader.

This is an over 18s only activity that involves alcohol

Don't forget, if you have any queries, please phone us using the number listed in the Guest Area, you can email us at info@llamedosholidaycamp.com but we may be slow to respond.
